Seasonal Gift Shop Sales Job Description and Duties

Position: Seasonal Gift Shop Employee (Hourly, Part-time, Seasonal)

Reports to: Gift Shop Manager

Schedule: Shifts vary. Required to work weekends. Schedules issued monthly.

Compensation: $15/hour

Overview: We are seeking a dedicated Seasonal Gift Shop Employee to join our team at Tybee Island Historical Society. This role involves various tasks to ensure the smooth operation of our gift shop, demanding physical stamina and excellent customer service skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Welcome visitors warmly and provide orientation to the site, including giving group orientations when necessary.

  • Operate the cash register proficiently and demonstrate knowledge of the Point of Sale (POS) system.

  • Perform cash count at the beginning and end of each shift, maintaining accuracy in financial transactions.

  • Assist with inventory procedures, ensuring accurate stock counts.

  • Keep gift shop shelves and stockroom adequately stocked and organized.

  • Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of the gift shop, including opening and closing duties.

  • Price merchandise accurately according to established guidelines.

  • Demonstrate familiarity with inventory and vendors, facilitating smooth operations.

  • Utilize suggestive selling techniques to promote merchandise effectively.

  • Exercise vigilance to prevent theft and maintain a safe environment.

  • Provide exceptional customer service, collaborating effectively with colleagues to ensure a positive team dynamic.

  • Enforce all rules and regulations set by the Historical Society to uphold standards of conduct.

  • Be prepared to work at various locations on-site, including the base of the lighthouse, head keeper's cottage, and museum as needed.

  • Regularly lift and move boxes of merchandise weighing up to 25-50 pounds.

  • Adapt to working in outdoor conditions, demonstrating resilience and flexibility.
