Public Programs & Education Coordinator
Reports to: Executive Director and Director of Operations
Position: Staff (Salary; Benefits; Full-time)
Salary: $45,760
Schedule: 8:30-4:30 Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. Days Off: Friday and Saturday
* This is a very physical job that requires long hours working outdoors, sometimes in inclement weather, as well as occasional after-hours tours and events. Being able to climb the 178 steps to the top of the lighthouse is a must.
Programming
-
Conduct educational activities. This includes site lectures, guided tours, and outreach programs, including programs for Girl Scout and school group tours.

Create and manage specialty tour content, such as the lighthouse Christmas programs and Halloween tours.

Monitor the performance of the membership, education, and tour programs and, if necessary, determine the need for improvements.

Manage booking, payments, and staffing of all guided tours, including partnering with tour companies to plan and host group visits.

Schedule & train volunteers & staff to work with large groups.

Work closely with gift store management and staff on a check-in system for groups.

Work with other staff on after-hours tours.

Monitor site daily to make sure it is safe and secure for visitors, enforcing rules for guests when necessary.

Work closely with the Volunteer Coordinator to provide ongoing training and professional development opportunities for volunteers.

Help to supervise volunteers and community service workers.

Answer phones and open and close the site when needed.
Membership
-
Manage society events such as annual membership and volunteer meetings.

Manage membership program, which includes working closely with the director and president of the board to create mail outs and generate membership programming as well as maintaining membership lists.

Creating and distributing membership newsletter.

Develop community outreach strategies for recruiting new members.

Provide monthly group tour and membership numbers for Board Meeting.

Plus, any additional tasks that the Executive Director or Director of Operations assigns.
Education and Experience:

Degree in Education or related field (middle school certification and experience a plus).

3-5 years experience in the museum field preferred.
Qualifications

Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.

Highly organized and detail oriented.

Skilled in community outreach - schools, colleges, community groups, and businesses, etc. - for recruitment purposes.

Comfort with public speaking and adult learning and instruction.

Proficiency with Microsoft suite essential; experience with Past Perfect database and point of sale software preferred.

Ability to work and collaborate intra- and inter-departmentally.
