Recreating the Past - Detective work

One of the greatest challenges was to find out what the past actually looked like. Look in the image in the mirror of the photograph from the forties. You see the fireplace (circled in red), that is the only record of what the fireplaces used to look like. This is one of many examples where material and memories were combed to find a clue as to how items once looked. Below is picture of a fireplace that was recreated.
